Chillitees started as a 'tasteful pop' songwriting experiment between Dan Gil and a former bandmate. Soon after they met Uela Basco, whose incredible silken voice topped off and complemented the mission. Their indie debut album "Extra Rice" was well received in both the underground and mainstream scene, and was picked up by EMI Music for a second printing and distribution. In 2008 they released their second album "Espasoul", a groovier follow up with deep influences from jazz, hiphop and r&b. They are currently working on a funky 3rd album which they will release summer of 2011.
"It first started with a love for a really tasty dish called chili tilapia, probably over beer while waxing poetic about nothing and everything at the same time. Then, there was the communal reverence for original Filipino music, if you may. A congregation of skills and tastes, a complementing of ideas and fashion sense, a forging of friendships and dinner plans, a never-ending desire to create great music. It was the year 2005 and Chillitees was born.
Five years later, the 4-piece band has seen its share of the Manila music scene, having evangelized the gospel of Filipino soul music to eager and willing listeners. Today, there are other areas to be covered and more desires to set aflame. It is not an exodus from its recognized brand, but an evolution of sound, sight, and even taste, for the very palatable Chillitees. " - Marian Hernandez
